After my last post, my parents and I drove back to Columbus MS and they went home as I waited to get an appointment for a second opinion at MD Anderson.
MD Anderson’s appointments were booked a month out, but on Tuesday I was able to be added to a cancellation list which required that I be closer to Houston TX in case an appointment came up. I got a call at 4pm on Tuesday saying that I needed to pack up and leave, and by 10am the next morning I was headed to San Antonio with the majority of my stuff. I have an appointment tomorrow (Monday, 10 August) to meet with the doctor at MD Anderson to discuss their recommendations as well as an initial phone consultation with an Integrative Oncologist in San Antonio to discuss any recommendations they have.
The Air Force team of case managers, command, and doctors has been amazing. I have been on phone calls as late as 10pm and as early as 5:45am as they have spent many hours this week ensuring that I can be where I need to be as quickly as I can. The Lord has truly blessed me in that way.
I’m not sure how long I will be in San Antonio, but I am getting PCS orders to here and will be here for at least the next several months as I go through treatment. While the circumstances aren’t what I prefer, I think I am going to enjoy San Antonio. I was able to go to a Young Adult Bible study on Thursday night, go on a hike at Enchanted Rock on Saturday, catch up with a few friends over the phone, and go to church with some friends from back home who now live in San Antonio. This week or next is when I will likely have to make the difficult decision of looking at the numbers and deciding which treatment plan I will take. Please be praying for me that I will understand everything correctly, the Lord will help me to make the correct decision, I will have confidence in my decision, and that I will get the support needed from the doctors and the Air Force after that decision is made.
I’ve also had a lot of opportunities to share with people that I am at peace because I know the Lord is in control. These opportunities have been in situations where it typically would be frowned upon to talk about ‘religion’, but nobody is going to tell the guy with cancer to not talk about his faith. Please also be praying that these conversations would turn into opportunities to fully explain the gospel.
